Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is a worldwide event that brings together tens of thousands of activities, competitions, and events across more than 200 countries every November. Its mission is simple yet profound: to make it easier for anyone, anywhere to start and grow their own business. Since its inception in 2008, GEW has been a source of inspiration for millions, encouraging them to explore their entrepreneurial potential, forge connections, and enhance collaboration within their communities.
GEW also aims to honor the entrepreneurs who’ve shaped our communities, who are shaping our future, and those who embrace risks while exploring fresh ideas. It will promote an entrepreneurial spirit and extend opportunities to those who have yet to discover its remarkable essence.
Why is diversity so important? Simply put, diversity fuels innovation. When people from different backgrounds and experiences come together, they bring fresh ideas to the table. For economies to thrive, it’s vital that no one is left behind. GEW recognizes this and extends its reach beyond the traditional startup hotspots like Silicon Valley, New York, and Boston. It envisions an entrepreneurial ecosystem that’s accessible to all, including smaller cities, underrepresented communities, and emerging economies.
Global Entrepreneurship Week is back with a new theme for 2023, It emphasizes inclusion, education, policy, and ecosystems. These themes shape and guide the activities and events during the week, spotlighting partner organizations, activity highlights, and thought leaders who are dedicated to these important aspects.
Inclusion: GEW Inclusion is all about removing barriers for entrepreneurs by maximizing inclusion. The goal is to level the playing field, ensuring that all communities, regardless of their geographical location or systemic challenges, have an equal opportunity to participate.
Education: GEW Education focuses on shaping how we educate and train budding entrepreneurs. It’s not just about formal education; it encompasses experiential learning and various other methods that prepare the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.
Policy: GEW Policy showcases innovative approaches taken by governments and policymakers to support entrepreneurs in starting and growing their businesses. It provides a platform for analyzing policies, sharing best practices, and exchanging experiences.
Ecosystems: Finally, GEW Ecosystems highlights the collaborative efforts to improve entrepreneurial surroundings. This theme shines a light on ecosystem builders, entrepreneurs, investors, and community leaders who work together to stimulate new firm formation.
JYIF, in the spirit of GEW, is actively participating by providing a series of sessions that cater to the aspirations of youth entrepreneurs in Jordan. These sessions are designed to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and inspiration they need to start their entrepreneurial journeys. Together, we’re celebrating and nurturing the spirit of entrepreneurship, making sure that it thrives in all corners of the world, including right here in Jordan.
