From Sinop to Aqaba: Bringing SEAL Awareness Home to Jordan

Inspired by their international experience, JYIF organized a local environmental action day in Aqaba to connect global awareness with Jordan’s own marine ecosystem in the Red Sea.

Youth Leading Change Locally

Young people joined us to:

• Clean polluted waterfront areas,
• Remove plastic waste from the shoreline,
• Sort collected waste for recycling or proper disposal,
• And document their findings to share in awareness campaigns.

This was not just cleaning — it was education, reflection, and empowerment.

Discussion Circle: “The Sea is Our Responsibility”

After the cleanup, the group sat together in a circle overlooking the water.

They discussed:

• How small waste on land becomes larger sea pollution
• The emotional impact of seeing marine habitats harmed
• How awareness begins at home, in our daily habits
• How Jordanian youth can be environmental ambassadors

Youth spoke about wanting:

• To reduce single-use plastics
• To spread the SEAL message in schools and universities
• To volunteer more often in marine conservation efforts

A Movement, Not a One-Time Action

This activity marked the beginning of ongoing local SEAL awareness actions — because protecting the sea is not one project, but a continuous responsibility.
